Welcome to the new year of St Basil's CWL Blog. We encourage you to come back often to search for meeting dates and times, especially changes to the schedule. Or you can check the weekly church bulletin for updates.
We had out first General meeting in September and discussed possible events the upcoming year with about 15 in attendance with Wine and Cheese afterwards.
One project has to do with helping a St Basil's parishioner become the owner of the Habitat for Humanity home in 2012. We will help in any way we can to make this happen and would love to see the entire parish get involved.
We also are joining St John's College with their Hal-O-Ween for Hunger food drive Oct 31st. Students will be collecting food from across the city and bringing it to St Basil's hall for pick up the next day by St Vincent de Paul. This could be the largest food drive in the city and we are thrilled to be involved.
We are providing white ribbons at the back of the church Oct 15 & Oct 16 to support the WRAP (White Ribbons Against Pornography) campaign fighting pornography. Please take one to wear for the week to increase awareness.
Unfortunately there will not be a General Meeting or Youth Wii night in October. Circumstances beyond our control made this necessary.

JUNE DATES TO REMEMBER
June 12th: Communion Breakfast for all ladies of the parish. It is a time set aside for a relaxing meal and speaker, with no clean-up after, just to spoil us for a change!

MAY DATES TO REMEMBER ( more to come)
MAY 1: CWL Communion Breakfast for all ladies of the parish. The official date is Sunday, June 12, 2011. We are in the process of booking a speaker to replace the Fashion Show which will now be in the Fall. Sorry for the inconvenience and we look forward to your support in the Fall. Thanks!!
May 11: CWL Executive Meeting at 7:00 pm in the parish hall. Please submit any items for the agenda one week prior to be included.
May 14: CWL RUMMAGE SALE...please bring in any donations no earlier than Friday, May 13 to the parish hall. Thanks!
May 19: Thursday is our CWL General Meeting. Dr Harkness from West Brant Vet Clinic will be there to answer questions. I'm looking into having a photographer for pics with pets..so be ready to bring your pet (on a leash or other restraint).

April 8: from 1:00 - 3:00 pm don't miss hearing a speaker you will always remember and the touching story of how her life began. She is Melissa Ohden who is the survivor of an attempted saline abortion.
April 5-12: St Basil's will take part in a Week of Proclamation on Thursday, April 11th, between 10:00 am and 12:00 noon at Farringdon Church . Parishioners will be joining other Churches in the city reading chosen passages from the bible. Readers are still welcome, please call 754-4392 if you would like to take part.
April 13: Prayer Shawl Meeting; Come to choose yarn and receive a pattern
April 14th: General Meeting; Come out for a mini gardening seminar on waterwaise gardening, home remedies and more; ask your questions of Larry Sagen, assistant director of Brantford's Master Gardeners Club and Denzel Sawyer, Master Gardener and freelance writer for the gardening section of the Expositor.
April 24: Youth Wii/Sports night....Cancelled in respect of Holy Week.

FEBRUARY DATES TO REMEMBER
February 16: Wednesday is our Prayer Shawl Meeting at 7:00pm in the parish hall. Bring your needles if you are staying to work on a project or just come and pick up some yarn and a pattern to work on at home. Thanks!
February 17: Thursday is our CWL General Meeting. We will be writing letters to government officials expressing our concerns and wishes regarding issues like Bill C-389 on gender identity or abortion or the topic that concerns you and what the government is discussing or voting on.
We also will be writing letters to servicemen and women in Afghanistan.
February 24: Thursday is our Youth Wii Tournament and Sports Night in the parish hall between 7:00pm and 9:00pm. Anyone between the ages of 14 - 18 may join in. Tacos, chips and pop are on the menu. We hope to see you there.
February 26 and 27: Saturday and Sunday after all of the Masses we will be having Parish Coffee in the hall. Come out for Starbuck's Coffee and share a few laughs and fellowship with the parish and maybe win a door prize!
